Home Performance with Energy Starâ„¢ Comprehensive Home Assessment
The comprehensive home assessment package is recommended for
most homeowners. This includes a visual walkthrough of your
home, a blower door test, a combustion efficiency test of
your boiler or furnace as well as hot water heater, and a
basic computer analysis of your home's performance based on
all the data we collect. Included also is a written report
outlining recommended improvements with projected savings.
If you choose to follow through with those recommendations
and have the work performed by an accredited contractor, you
may be eligible for low interest financing or even cash back
incentives.
Includes:
- Thermal Imaging Walkthrough (in conjunction with Blower Door Test)
- Blower Door Test: this is one of the most
important tests a homeowner can conduct on his or her home when trying to
find ways to reduce energy consumption. Heat flows out of the home
(primarily) in two ways: 1) conduction through the walls and
windows, and 2) convection via air infiltration / exfiltration (i.e.
air leakage). In many homes, air leakage can account for the bulk
of its heat loss, and in most cases, these problems can be quite
easily repaired. This test helps trace the source of the air leaks
in your home so that the work scope for air sealing may be
determined.
- Heating / Cooling System Efficiency Tests:
We analyze the current combustion and distribution
efficiencies of your appliances in order to determine whether
modification or replacement is cost effective.
- Computer Modeling of your Home using TREAT:
using TREAT, we can assess the current
performance of your home to determine the effects of the
core problems in the thermal and pressure boundaries, as
well as project the annual savings of possible
solutions.
- Written Report: Included with
this assessment is a comprehensive written report
providing you with all the data you need to decide on
the next course of action. Also included is the
output from the TREAT simulation, as well as summary
descriptions of our recommendations with the contact
information of reliable contractors in the area.
- Optional Duct Blaster Test: if you have older ductwork located
primarily in an accessible area such as a basement or attic, you may want to
consider having a Duct Blaster Test done in conjuntion with the Blower Door
Test. The Duct Blaster works by pressurizing the ductwork while the Blower
Door runs in reverse to pressurize the home in order to determine how much of
your heated or chilled air is escaping to the outdoor environment before it even
reaches the conditioned space. We can then quantify savings based on the
data we collect to determine whether or not you should spend money repairing or
replacing sections of the ductwork.
